After the first year of college, students frequently lament their course selections and start performing poorly. In an age where information and technology are so readily available, it is unreasonable for students to make those choices. Thus, I believe two underlying causes exist and that each possesses a corresponding solution.

Regarding enrollment in unfavourable courses, a freshman's primary intention may be to make their parents proud. They enroll in numerous courses that satisfy their family members first. To appease their parents, consequently, freshmen disregard their interest in the courses. The second is a lack of initiative to consider future planning. They simply follow the trend without taking the time to find out what fundamental abilities their future employment would demand, nor do they evaluate where they may obtain these competencies.

I propose two realistic solutions for the two aforementioned reasons. First, freshmen must recognize that making independent decisions is equally as valuable as respecting their parents' wisdom. I am not suggesting ignoring the parents' concerns but rather simply following their guidance; students should learn to accept life's responsibilities and base all decisions on their own inner guidance and information gathering. Secondly, before enrolling, students should conduct extensive personal and professional studies. They should evaluate what essential skills their future professions will require and how to acquire those skills through these courses. In addition to credible reading sources, students can also consult with subject-matter experts.

In conclusion, it is mostly the students' responsibility to try their best and make use of all available possibilities while choosing the proper course. While many circumstances do impact a student's selection, ultimately, students are only themselves to blame if they are disappointed with their choice.
