申請麵試如何避免“一問一答”

很多同學在準備申請麵試的過程中會(hui) 有疑問…

“該怎麽(me) 準備麵試” 這是一個(ge) 很大的問題。

就像之前提到的，麵試隻是申請過程中的一個(ge) 環節，在麵試之前，學校已經看過申請人的材料，也對申請人有個(ge) 預判印象了，而麵試更多隻是最後看看申請人的個(ge) 性以及整體(ti) 的感覺。麵試不是整個(ge) 申請過程的決(jue) 定因素（也就是說麵試官不會(hui) 僅(jin) 僅(jin) 因為(wei) 麵試就一錐子決(jue) 定要給你offer還是不要。有可能已經決(jue) 定要accept你了，隻是想再meet you in person；有可能覺得你potential，有些申請材料上沒有看到的/但是又想要了解的部分，想要當麵問問你），所以不用因為(wei) 自己好像想不出太過fancy或者獨特的回答而感到焦慮和緊張，比起fancy的內(nei) 容，更重要的是：該給麵試官傳(chuan) 遞一個(ge) 怎樣的形象，如何讓他記得你這個(ge) 人。

那麽(me) 問題來了：麵試官一般會(hui) 記住怎樣的人呢？

直接來說，大部分情況是：

• 背景特別特別厲害的

• 性格合的

• 對你的麵試有印象的

特別特別厲害的背景這個(ge) 沒有什麽(me) 好說的，有就有，沒有就沒有；性格合的這個(ge) 很虛，很難確定，每個(ge) 學校不一樣，每個(ge) 麵試官也不一樣，這種就是隨緣了…；如果你背景這部分覺得自己沒有那麽(me) 有競爭(zheng) 力，又feel不到自己的緣，那你能夠做的，就是最後一個(ge) ：對你的麵試有印象。

麵試官通常會(hui) 記不住哪些人呢？

• 問一句答一句的

• 回答太過籠統（看不出來準備過）

• 看起來比麵試官更不enjoy這場麵試（簡單來說：虛）

我們(men) 來看看怎麽(me) 辦！

· 問一句答一句 ·

“Do you have academic disadvantages?”

“Yes.”

( ... and then comes the eye-to-eye silence ...)

這個(ge) 時候就很尷尬了。

麵試官有時候問問題 (比如 Do you have… 這類），不是隻想得到一個(ge) yes或者no的答案，隻是一種問法，背後的意思就是：Do you have…? If you do have, what are they? 或者 If you don’t, why is it then? 。盡量減少麵試官需要二次詢問的次數，提到的內(nei) 容，都適量解釋一下。

除此以外，development（展開）的能力也很重要，最好加入一些"自己"在裏麵，personalize一下。

比如，如果麵試官問：Why do you choose this program?   然後你說：Well, because this is a program specifically for international students, which will give me a lot of opportunities to communicate with people from different countries. 這個(ge) 回答基本看不到你自己。展開，加入為(wei) 什麽(me) 能夠和不同國家來的人communicate對你來說這麽(me) 重要（以前沒有機會(hui) 嗎？或者是你以後有什麽(me) 目標嗎？這個(ge) program是對你接下來的計劃有什麽(me) contribution嗎？）

Well, because this is a program specifically for international students, which will give me a lot of opportunities to talk with people from different countries. You know for this program, it’s pretty important to know how to start a conversation, how to negociate and convince people. I don’t think I will have that much time in college to go out and seek chances to work on these skills, since I will be occupied by so many things, like the assignments of each course, the exams, not to mention I will probably have volunteer activities to participate in. If I have the pleasure to be accepted in this program, I will be able to practice these skills while working on group projects w/ my classmates or by doing the class discussions. That’s why I think this program is perfect for me, and why I decided to apply for it.

· 回答太過籠統 ·

申請麵試通常會(hui) 被問到，肯定是關(guan) 於(yu) 學校和專(zhuan) 業(ye) 的問題。麵試之前，一定要花時間準備，多了解學校，體(ti) 現出自己想要去這所學校的誠意。如果隻是憑感覺回答，或者草草搜集一些籠統的回答（比如學校位置不錯，聽說學校師資很好等），但是又說不出個(ge) 所以然，也看不出你對這個(ge) 學校的desire，麵試官也很難就把offer發給你。

有什麽(me) 方式可以了解學校呢？

1.  學校的網站。

不要小看學校網站，也不要覺得這無關(guan) ，從(cong) 學校的網站可以了解很多關(guan) 於(yu) program的信息，換句話說，如果你連學校的網站都沒有看過（或者都不願意花時間去看），對方沒有必要和你多聊啊，感覺你就是順道投遞了申請書(shu) 去別人家嘛…

至少你對要申請的program要熟悉，比如最基本的項目介紹，curriculum，學校注重什麽(me) 方麵的development，最近有沒有什麽(me) 學校的活動或者成就，你可能會(hui) 有的機會(hui) （summer program / global program/ internship opportunity等），項目的重點或者目標等等，這些你都是要提前了解，並且能夠說，最好是能夠用到自己的回答當中。

2.  LinkedIn

LinkedIn在美國是比較常用的一個(ge) 職場social website，大部分的networking都可以通過LinkedIn進行。大部分學生還沒有自己的一個(ge) LinkedIn賬號，有的話可能也隻是和別人connect一下，但卻沒有在用。其實LinkedIn是一個(ge) 非常有用的搜索工具（特別是關(guan) 於(yu) 學校和工作）。

那LinkedIn到底可以幫我們(men) 找到什麽(me) 信息呢？

首先，在主頁上方，看到search bar：

輸入自己將要麵試的program或者學校，然後選擇tag "people"，接下來你就能看到一列在這個(ge) program/學校在讀，或者已經畢業(ye) 的學生：

點進去就能夠看到別人的profile：

這是一個(ge) 超棒的資源，通過這些學生profile裏的education和experience，你可以了解到：

現在在讀的大部分學生以前是哪些學校畢業(ye) 的？

知道你們(men) 的共性，也知道一般學校錄取的preference

這個(ge) program/major在讀的學生有沒有參加過學校哪些programs？

這可能是你之後有機會(hui) 參加的項目，能提前了解一下，之後麵試也可以和麵試官聊一下說：I saw that some students attended the xxx program before, they worked in xxx company and got the chance to work closely with xxx, which looks really amazing. This is one of the reasons why I chose to apply for xxx. I would like to know if the school will have such programs in the future? Any other opportunities that the school will provide to the students?

這個(ge) program/major已經畢業(ye) 的學生現在大部分在哪些領域工作？

以後或許你也會(hui) 有機會(hui) 在相關(guan) 領域or相關(guan) 公司工作，因為(wei) 學校大部分的人脈都會(hui) 聚集在這些領域或者公司，麵試的時候如果聊起自己以後的目標或者計劃，也可以利用這些信息，比如：I noticed that most alumni of your school work in xxx, and since my goal is to xxx, which makes me feel like this school is the right place for me. And considering I have done xxx, I believe my experience and passion will bring xxx to the school.

甚至在LinkedIn上，還可以inmail在讀生或者畢業(ye) 生，直接問他們(men) 關(guan) 於(yu) program或者關(guan) 於(yu) interview（比如他們(men) 當時麵試時候問過一些什麽(me) 問題，或者他們(men) 覺得學校最value什麽(me) 等等），是完全可以的。基本上他們(men) 看到inmail，隻要有空或者方便，都是會(hui) 回一下。
