A growing trend among young people is to spend a few months or a year volunteering in developing nations. It seems to me that the primary grounds for this occurrence are the aspiration to better one's own self-awareness and the readiness to offer a helping hand to others.

The primary motivation for such a choice among young people is the desire to boost their own self-esteem. In recent years, as a result of world peace and rapid economic growth, a greater number of young people lack a clear sense of future life planning and self-worth despite fairly consistent education and employment. By participating in overseas volunteer programs, one can observe the gap between the rich and the poor in many nations and discover that the compassion can benefit the locals and receive a positive feedbacks. The second reason is to express affection. Church-going households tend to have more youngsters engaged in foreign volunteer work. Religion encourages a feeling of equality and brotherhood, which has led to a rise in the number of young people participating in efforts to support underprivileged communities.

In addition, several individuals would profit from volunteer activity. First, through mingling with other volunteers and locals, young people can not only obtain an in-depth understanding of the local culture, but also meet friends from different cultures. Second, local welfare institutions and residents can also receive further advantages. Although young people perform volunteer work for free, they are typically required to pay a daily fee to the organisation before beginning. In other words, volunteers will not only contribute free labour to the local community, but they will also contribute financial assistance.

In conclusion, helping others is not merely for a resume bullet point or a sense of moral superiority, but for a sense of social responsibility.  I hope that every voluntary effort will have a major impact on the globe.
