Task 2: Some people think that older school children should learn a wide range of subjects and develop knowledge. But other people think that they should only learn a small number of subjects in detail. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Some people think that it is better for high school students to study a wide range of subjects than to focus on a narrow range of subjects. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
2.文章最後的的結論沒有明顯的站一邊,而是典型的取決(jue) 於(yu) 某些因素(depend on their career requirements and aspirations for the future)。
The debate of whether quantity or quality in education is best suited for pupils has created a split between educators and this issue has continually intrigued curriculum makers. There are valid merits of both methods, nonetheless their practical benefits ought to be assessed based on individual pupil preferences and learning styles.
The primary reason is that the experience of broad study provides students with more opportunities to explore their real interests and talents. This is particularly important for older school students as most of them in this stage are not fully aware of aptitude. Besides, having access to a large variety of course materials will enable students to become well-rounded, allowing them to understand various aspects of life and society. Through being educated in a range of topics, it also provides students with the opportunity to access new ideas and concepts, giving them greater selection regarding career prospects.
Nevertheless, students specializing in a particular field brings about the benefit of being able to develop expertise and complete proficiency, which is valuable for certain professions. Moreover, when pupils have an excellent grasp of one or a few subjects, they will be able to make innovative contributions to that field in the future. These innovations are what drive societal and technological advancement, generally resulting from acquiring heaps of knowledge in specific domains and being able to thoroughly comprehend and apply it.
In my view, not all students are created equal whereby pupils are individually unique, having various learning capacities and methods that differ from their peers. As a result, educating students from a broad-based approach or focusing on a few areas of study would heavily depend on their career requirements and aspirations for the future.
