Eat corns ≠ 吃玉米

筆者剛登陸溫哥華時，看到路旁廣告“Locally Grown Corn”。後來，某堂課上，我讓學生以My New Life in Vancouver為(wei) 題寫(xie) 篇作文。

某生寫(xie) 出這樣的句子，Ever since I came to Vancouver, I have always enjoyed eating corns because they are so sweet. 究竟“吃玉米”是eat corn還是eat corns？孰是孰非？

事實上，corn的確有“玉米”的意思，但是一定是不可數名詞，一定不能在詞尾加s。如：

1)Corn is an important crop of our country.

2)They gathered corn from the fields.

3)The cows were in the field, eating corn. corn

還有“雞眼”的意思，是可數名詞，可加不定冠詞,也可在詞尾加s。

如:

1) The poor man has a bad corn on his left foot.

2) The podiatrist (足醫) removed Henry's painful corns.  

所以，eat corn s≠ 吃玉米，而是“吃雞眼”。味道如何？你品！你細品！
