哈佛、康奈爾、JHU都新增的“多樣性補充文書”究竟應該怎麽寫？

本月初，24 Fall的Common App已經開放。

不過，隨著平權法案的廢除與(yu) 傳(chuan) 承錄取的爭(zheng) 議，眾(zhong) 多美國大學在今年的招生中已經做出調整。最大的一個(ge) 趨勢就是多樣性相關(guan) 文章增加，要求學生們(men) 提供有關(guan) 他們(men) 個(ge) 人身份背景、他們(men) 將如何為(wei) 大學社區做出貢獻等。

今年我們(men) 就一起來看下哪些學校新增了這類題目，以及如何寫(xie) 好一篇多樣性文書(shu) 。

哈佛、康奈爾新增多樣性相關(guan) 題目

01/ 哈佛大學 /

在接受最高法院判決(jue) 後，哈佛大學對以往的補充文書(shu) 進行了改革。取消了補充材料中的選擇性論文，代之以5個(ge) 200字以內(nei) 的簡答題，涵蓋申請人的生活經曆、學術興(xing) 趣、課外活動、他們(men) 希望將來如何利用哈佛教育，以及他們(men) 希望室友了解的前三件事：

1. Harvard has long recognized the importance of enrolling a diverse student body. How will the life experiences that shape who you are today enable you to contribute to Harvard?
2. Briefly describe an intellectual experience that was important to you.
3. Briefly describe any of your extracurricular activities, employment experience, travel, or family responsibilities that have shaped who you are.
4. How do you hope to use your Harvard education in the future?
5. Top 3 things your roommates might like to know about you.

02/ 北卡羅來納大學 /

UNC今年的補充文書(shu) 題目發布得要比往年慢一些。對比文書(shu) 措辭不難發現，刪除了申請者的身份信息的描述（去年的題目是“Describe an aspect of your identity，for example, your religion, culture, race, sexual or gender identity, affinity group, etc.），改為(wei) 兩(liang) 個(ge) “描述你將如何為(wei) UNC社區做出貢獻的250字以內(nei) 的簡答題：

1. Discuss one of your personal qualities and share a story, anecdote, or memory of how it helped you make a positive impact on a community. This could be your current community or another community you have engaged.
2. Discuss an academic topic that you’re excited to explore and learn more about in college. Why does this topic interest you? Topics could be a specific course of study, research interests, or any other area related to your academic experience in college.

03/ 康奈爾大學 /

康奈爾大學的創立者Ezra Cornell曾希望創立一個(ge) 人人都能得到學術指導的機構，150餘(yu) 年來，康奈爾大學一直致力於(yu) 實現這一理想。今年的補充論文裏新增了申請人是如何可以幫助康奈爾大學實現這一理想的論述：

• Explain how your life experiences will help inform your contributions to a learning community devoted to “… any person … any study.” We encourage you to think broadly about your life experiences, including how local (e.g., family, school, neighborhood) or global communities you’ve been part of have helped shape your perspective

04/ 約翰霍普金斯大學 /

JHU新增的問題包含了兩(liang) 個(ge) 方麵：申請人的個(ge) 人背景信息，以及過往經曆如果幫助申請人在JHU追尋理想，且字數限製為(wei) 300字以內(nei) ：

• Tell us about an aspect of your identity (e.g. race, gender, sexuality, religion, community, etc.) or a life experience that has shaped you as an individual and how that influenced what you’d like to pursue in college at Hopkins.? (This can be a future goal or experience that is either academic, extracurricular, or social).  

如何回答多樣性問題

多樣性文章作為(wei) 補充文書(shu) 的一種，存在的目的就是進一步向學校展示“你是誰”“你對什麽(me) 感興(xing) 趣”“你與(yu) 其他申請者的不同之處”，包括你曾麵對過的挑戰或障礙、你是如何為(wei) 特定人群做出貢獻或從(cong) 中學到東(dong) 西的。

針對這個(ge) 核心，我們(men) 可以從(cong) 以下三個(ge) 方麵來構思自己的文章：

突出你的特征

很多同學在麵對這個(ge) 題目時都會(hui) 有一個(ge) 誤解，覺得多樣性隻涉及種族、宗教、性取向或者社會(hui) 經濟地位。但其實除了這些，多樣性還包含很多方麵，比如：興(xing) 趣愛好、天賦、觀點、價(jia) 值觀、經曆、語言、家人、性格特征等。

不妨問問自己，你所有的身份特征中，哪些方麵對你來說是最重要的？這些在主文書(shu) 中得到了充分展示嗎？以及你有什麽(me) 興(xing) 趣、經曆或者特質想要著重強調的嗎？

所選擇的話題不一定要是最瘋狂或者最獨特的，隻要能夠展示它是如何塑造你的，哪怕最常見的小事也能成為(wei) 很好的素材。

舉(ju) 個(ge) 例子，你可能非常喜歡徒步或戶外活動，在某次活動中超越了自己的極限；或者你是一個(ge) 自學成才的理發師，為(wei) 了某項慈善活動籌款免費理了幾百次發等。

分享一個(ge) 故事

讓你的文章更吸引人的一個(ge) 簡單方法就是分享一個(ge) 相關(guan) 的故事。

用故事開頭可以很快地抓住招生官的眼球，讓他們(men) 體(ti) 驗你所描述的東(dong) 西，從(cong) 而更好地了解你。

你可以頭腦風暴一些與(yu) 你想要突出的特征相關(guan) 的故事。比如，一次有意義(yi) 的互動、實現了一個(ge) 目標、一次衝(chong) 突、一次你為(wei) 自己的特質感到驕傲(或羞愧)的時刻，或者最難忘的經曆等。

同樣的，這個(ge) 故事不需要太複雜，隻要能夠描述你在做某項活動時的精神和情緒狀態就可以。
