The BigBang Fair 英國青年科學獎

在上周落下帷幕！

來自Surbiton High School的Avye Couloute（Y9）、來自Liverpool Life Sciences UTC的Connie Gray（Y9），分別拿下了英國年度青年工程師、英國年度青年科學家的最高榮譽。

參加The BigBang Fair不僅(jin) 能豐(feng) 富自己的申請履曆，又能向招生官展現自己對某一學科領域的熱情！

The BigBang獎項

The Big Bang分為(wei) 兩(liang) 個(ge) 賽道：科學、工程

科學

偏重科研調研，探索與(yu) 科學方法的運用等

工程

偏重發明、設計與(yu) 製造等

兩(liang) 個(ge) 賽道下，根據參賽者的年級進行劃分，按組別分別評選出一位冠軍(jun) ，劃分標準如下?

注：如果有跨年級的成員組隊，則按照隊伍中年齡最大的成員確定隊伍類型。

科學學科

英國年度青年科學家：Connie Gray

研究內(nei) 容：Comparing the structure of the features of birds from different climates and environments to each other

Senior組冠軍(jun) ：Lucy Coleman（Y13）

研究內(nei) 容：‘Working Healthy’ aimed to redesign the way in which people work from home with a unique design of a weather-proof open-air office. She also won the Intellectual Property Office award for outstanding innovator.

Intermediate組冠軍(jun) ：Anastasia Herries（Y11）

研究內(nei) 容：Her project titled ‘Essential Oils as Slug Repellents’ was designed to address the need for alternative and eco-friendly slug repellent.

Senior組冠軍(jun) ：Erin Carr（Y8）

研究內(nei) 容：Erin’s aim was to investigate comparisons between using all senses and the loss of 1, with the hope of finding out how fast the brain adapts.

工程學科

英國年度青年工程家：Avye Couloute

研究內(nei) 容：Avye impressed the judges with her invention which seeks to improve indoor air quality by monitoring and reacting to CO2 levels. The solution can benefit classrooms, collaborative working spaces, and seated eating areas in the hospitality sector.

Senior組冠軍(jun) ：Lily-Mai Spinks（Y12）

研究內(nei) 容：Her project titled ‘ISOPOD’. Lily-Mai made a tent with a concertina design, aiming to provide a user and eco-friendly festival camping alternative.

Intermediate組冠軍(jun) ：Om Patel（Y11）

研究內(nei) 容：This aims to support people with some walking difficulties with a designed a prototype brace that supports the leg from the knee to the foot and ensures that the person can walk more naturally.

Senior組冠軍(jun) ：Ryan Stubbs and William Bradshaw（Y8）

研究內(nei) 容：Their project titled ‘ElectroPi’. They created a seed-planting robot, which is designed to plant and water seeds based on soil moisture levels.

 

The BigBang Fair

英國青年科學獎（The Big Bang Fair），由英國政府和200多家科學、工程界組織聯合創辦，是麵向英國7-13年級學生的科學賽事。

Big Bang計劃旨在將科學和工程學帶入年輕人的生活。參賽者將通過這個(ge) 英國“天花板級”的科學與(yu) 工程賽事，鍛煉他們(men) 的邏輯思維，挑戰事實、提出問題並創造解決(jue) 方案。

1、參賽方式

• 參賽者需在英國學校就讀
• 參賽時，參賽者必須在11-19歲之間，且必須為全日製學校就讀學生
• 參賽者隻能單獨或作為團隊的一員參加一個項目

2、參賽時間（以2021-22賽季為(wei) 例）

• 網上報名開放：2021年12月6日
• 網上報名截止：2022年3月20日
• 入圍名單公布：2022年4月25日
• 決賽入圍評審(線上)：2022年5月9日-5月20日
• 頒獎典禮：2022年6月22日

3、評審標準

曾在該賽事中獲獎的S同學，15歲已經三次參加The Big Bang Fair。

在賽場拿下“年度最佳青年科學家”後，她受邀參加了BBC Breakfast，後來還在全球醫療保健公司GSK實習(xi) 。這段實習(xi) 經曆對她的人生都帶來了巨大的改變。

即便已經獲獎，她還是希望能夠繼續參賽，因為(wei) 這個(ge) 賽場給予了她無限可能。

大學申請的競爭(zheng) 正在變得越發激烈，英本美本皆是如此。據英國大學申請係統UCAS統計，2021年提交申請的人數同比上漲了約12%！

為(wei) 了從(cong) 越發激烈的申請大軍(jun) 中，挑選出最有發展潛力的學生，英本開始對申請者的軟實力有了更高的要求，The BigBang Fair是英國本土學生不容錯過的賽場！
