1. 窮人和富人（the rich and the poor）

英文寫(xie) 作中最常見的“窮人和富人”表達，就是the rich and the poor，the+adj表示一類人，除了用簡單的rich和poor之前，外刊中還有一些詞匯：

✅富人：the wealthy/ the affluent /the well-off/ the haves

✅窮人：the needy/ the disadvantaged/ the impoverished/ the have-nots

the+adj 表示一類人的時候，後麵的謂語動詞可以用複數，也可以用單數，但是表示的意思是不同的。 後麵接is，表示將這類人看成是一個(ge) 大的群體(ti) ；後麵接are表示一個(ge) 複數各種人的概念。

比如：

Many entry-level employees struggle to make both ends meet. 很多入職新人隻能勉強維持收支相抵。

With the high cost of living, it's tough to make ends meet.

因為(wei) 生活成本太高了，我們(men) 有點入不敷出。

② in financial hardship/difficulties 有經濟困難

After experiencing the worldwide pandemic, many countries are in financial hardship.  (摘自BBC) 在經曆了全球流行的疫情後，很多國家處於(yu) 經濟困境中。

有時候，也可以寫(xie) 成with financial hardship/difficulties, 比如：People with financial difficulties are more likely than average to be poorly-educated people, living on lower incomes and have experience of mental health issues. 經濟困難的人更有可能是受教育程度低、收入低、有心理健康問題的人。

③ be on a budget 預算不夠，省錢（一般都是做後置定語）有時候，還可以寫(xie) 成be on a tight budget 預算超級緊張

Because of the general economic climate, many people may still feel as though they must manage on a tight budget.
