朋友約著去露營，在大巴車站集合。小明匆忙趕到，看見隻有我一個(ge) 人，問我其他人呢？我說：①除了你，大家都到了，他們(men) 已經上車了。
20分鍾前，我給小明打電話說：②除了你，大家都到了。
於(yu) 是你發現，①和②中的“除了”意思有差別，但是漢語並沒有用2個(ge) 詞來區分。
英語卻做了區分：
□ I like everyone, except you.
我喜歡所有人，除了你。
□I like everyone else, besides you.
我除了喜歡你，其他人我也喜歡。

先聊聊比較簡單的besides。

題目中的in addition to和other than，都是besides的同義(yi) 詞。

於(yu) 是，except的例句總是包含“所有”的詞（見斜體(ti) 部分）。
besides就沒有這樣的要求。
□We work every day except Sunday.
我們(men) 每天都工作，除了周天。
□They all came except Matt.
他們(men) 都來了，除了Matt。
□They were all there except me.
他們(men) 都在那裏，除了我。
□Anything, except water, is likely to block a sink.
除了水，任何東(dong) 西都很可能堵塞水槽。
□All the boys except Peter started to laugh.
除了Peter，所有男孩都開始笑。
□There's nobody except me.
這裏除了我沒有任何人。
□Pedro didn't trust anyone except himself.
Pedro除了自己，不相信任何人。
□She likes going to most sports events, except cricket matches.
她喜歡大多數體(ti) 育活動，除了板球比賽。
細看例句，黑體(ti) 部分(Sunday, Matt, water, cricket matches)都屬於(yu) 下劃線部分(day, they, anything, sports events)的範疇。
於(yu) 是，問題來了，句子翻譯：除了這個(ge) 錯誤，你做得很好。
( ) thismistake, youdid very well.（黑體(ti) 部分不屬於(yu) 下劃線的範疇）
括號裏邊填什麽(me) ？
大家應該看到過except for：
□Except for Louisa, who’s away in Berlin this weekend, we’ll all be at the party.
除了周末身在柏林的Louisa，我們(men) 所有人都在聚會(hui) 上。
於(yu) 是，我到國外網站搜了except for和except的（語義(yi) ）差別。沒有，反而搜到的是：
□I like all fruitexcept (for) oranges.
除了橙子，我喜歡所有水果。
句中for可有可無。
注意句中下劃線和黑體(ti) 部分：在except和except for都行的句子中，排除的事物(orange)和全部事物(fruit)是同類。
有些情況下，可以用exceptfor，不用except。
請讀者仔細觀察下邊例句中的下劃線和黑體(ti) 部分，找出特點。
□The classroom was silent, except for the sound of pens on paper.
□The room was very cold and, except for Mao, entirely empty.
□I don't drink, except for the occasional glass of wine.
□We enjoyed the holiday except for the expense.
總結：黑體(ti) 部分(sound, Mao, wine, expense)不屬於(yu) 下劃線部分(silent, empty, drink動詞, holiday)的情況，except需要+for。
於(yu) 是，前邊問題答案揭曉：
Except for thismistake, youdid very well.
接下來，順便把except的其他用法一次性講完。
句子翻譯：他們(men) 從(cong) 不張嘴，除了抱怨。
× They didn't open their mouths except complain.
因為(wei) except接不了動詞。但是，加個(ge) to就行：
□They didn't open their mouths except to complain.

再來一個(ge) 句子翻譯：你的文章很好，除了太長。
□Your essay was good except that it was too long.
即except可以接從(cong) 名詞性從(cong) 句。更多例句：

□I knew nothing about Judith except what her dad told me.

句中的that可以省略嗎？
不能。
except 三種用法總結
1）except除了可以直接接名詞，還可以先+for再接名詞；
①如果被排除的事物和全部事物是同類，for可有可無；
②如果不是同類，需要+for；
2）except需要先+to才能接動詞；
3）except可以接名詞性從(cong) 句。
另外，except還有一個(ge) 語義(yi) ：要不是(=if it weren't for)。
□She would travel more except for lack of money.
要不是錢不夠，她會(hui) 更多地旅行。
□I would join you except for my cold.
要不是我感冒了，我會(hui) 加入你們(men) 。
□I would buy the suit, except that it costs too much.
要不是這套西裝太貴，我會(hui) 買(mai) 下它。
□I would have arrived earlier, except that I lost my way.
要不是我迷路了，我會(hui) 早點到。
注意：這個(ge) 語義(yi) 下，except必須接for或者that。
