UCB更新高需求專業名單

近日，多所UC係大學相繼宣布實施“專(zhuan) 業(ye) 收緊令”，限製學生就讀一些高需求和高篩選性專(zhuan) 業(ye) ，為(wei) 州內(nei) 和州外學生設置截然不同的轉專(zhuan) 業(ye) 申請門檻。新政一出，“曲線救國”還有可能嗎？今天，老師就帶大家來了解其中的詳情。

UCB更新高需求專(zhuan) 業(ye) 名單

2024年4月23日，加州大學伯克利分校（UCB）發布了一份高需求專(zhuan) 業(ye) （High Demand Majors）清單，其中包括藝術實踐、心理學、媒體(ti) 研究、公共衛生、社會(hui) 福利、政治經濟學、運籌學研究和管理科學等等。

政策顯示，如果想要就讀高需求專(zhuan) 業(ye) ，最好在申請之初便申報，這樣確定就讀這些專(zhuan) 業(ye) 的機會(hui) 最大。

如果想入讀L&S學院之後，再“曲線救國”轉入這些專(zhuan) 業(ye) 的話，都需要經過嚴(yan) 格考核，並且UCB不保證通過考核就一定存在轉入的名額。

因此，對於(yu) 想要在UCB就讀的學生，一定提前留意未來想要就讀的專(zhuan) 業(ye) 是否在高需求專(zhuan) 業(ye) 名單中。

Tip：“高需求專(zhuan) 業(ye) ”名單僅(jin) 針對開設在UCB最大的學院——文理學院下的專(zhuan) 業(ye) 。去年在名單上的CS、統計學等熱門專(zhuan) 業(ye) 現在已經不屬於(yu) 文學理學院旗下，被放在UCB新開設的學院“College of Computing, Data Science, and Society”中。

UCSD發布高選拔性專(zhuan) 業(ye) 名單

與(yu) 此同時，2024年4月24日，同為(wei) UC係的加州大學聖地亞(ya) 哥分校（UCSD）也在官網發布了一批“高選拔性專(zhuan) 業(ye) ”（Majors with Selective Status）名單，包括數據科學、公共衛生、生物工程、化學工程、計算機科學與(yu) 工程、電氣與(yu) 計算機工程、機械與(yu) 航空航天工程、納米工程、結構工程等等。這些都是UCSD的優(you) 勢專(zhuan) 業(ye) ，也是中國留學生非常熱衷申請的專(zhuan) 業(ye) 。

校方明確指出，從(cong) 2025年夏季開始，目前在校學生要想轉入上述“高篩選性專(zhuan) 業(ye) ”，每年僅(jin) 有一次申請的機會(hui) （夏季學期和秋季學期之間）。而想要轉專(zhuan) 業(ye) 的在校生必須完成相關(guan) 的必修篩選課程並保持良好的學業(ye) 成績。

此外，學校還將優(you) 先考慮錄取加州州內(nei) 學生、第一代大學生和低收入家庭學生。

具體(ti) 積分標準如下：

●專(zhuan) 業(ye) 篩選課程中獲得3.0或更高GPA，得1分；

●加州居民，得1分；

●第一代大學生，得1分；

●擁有Pell助學金資格，得1分。

學校將按分數高低進行錄取，直至名額滿額。對大多數中國留學生來說，這意味著在UCSD轉入高篩選性專(zhuan) 業(ye) 的機會(hui) 變得非常低——留學生作為(wei) 州外學生，沒有加州居民身份；Pell獎學金，隻發給美國公民或合格的非公民；初代大學生，特指美國初代大學生群體(ti) ，基本積分上限有且僅(jin) 有1分。

因此，即便你GPA為(wei) 4.0，其轉專(zhuan) 業(ye) 的優(you) 勢也不如GPA為(wei) 3.0的州內(nei) 第一代大學生。

雖然這些規定隻適用於(yu) 已經在加州大學聖地亞(ya) 哥分校注冊(ce) 的學生，但這些規定標誌著UC係列院校正在逐漸將生源中心轉向加州州內(nei) 學生服務，而不是為(wei) 國際學生服務。

UC係列院校逐漸偏向加州學生

官方表示，近年來UC係大學國際學生人數不斷增長，製定新規是為(wei) 了保證在讀學生的就讀體(ti) 驗，順便提升一下加州本地學生的申請優(you) 勢。

根據加州大學的招生數據顯示，截至2007年，本科國際生總數還不到3,000人，但到2021年，這一數字迅速飆升至10,000多人。國際生人數逐年攀升，於(yu) 2019年達到最高峰27,183人。

麵對逐年增高的國際生人數，UC係列院校不得不采取措施。於(yu) 2020年開始，加州大學係統招生方針變發生明顯的轉變，開始優(you) 先考慮加州當地的居民而不是國際生。因此，UC各校紛紛發布了自己的“高需求”和“高篩選性”專(zhuan) 業(ye) 名單，也是可以預料的事情。

其它UC院校限製專(zhuan) 業(ye) 名單：

- UCLA：音樂(le) ；藝術與(yu) 建築；戲劇、電影和電視；護理學

- UCSB：音樂(le) 和舞蹈；創意研究學院的所有9個(ge) 專(zhuan) 業(ye) ；工程學院的所有5個(ge) 專(zhuan) 業(ye)

- UCSC：計算機科學

UC院校曲線救國還有可能嗎？

2025學年的入學申請即將開啟，對於(yu) 中國學生來說，如果有意向就讀加州係院校的熱門專(zhuan) 業(ye) ，就要早做準備，提前做好申請規劃。

今天，老師從(cong) 他多年的留學經驗來分析，目前新規政策下“曲線救國”的可行性。

Given the increasingly challenging admission process at top UCs like Berkeley and UCLA, it's inevitable that students should steer clear of applying directly to High Demand Majors. Statistically speaking, gaining admission to UC Berkeley is as tough, if not tougher, than gaining admission to Cornell for the Class of 2028. Over the past several years, all of my students who successfully gained admission to top UCs applied for majors not included in the list of High Demand Majors. For instance, they pursued majors such as Architecture and Environmental Science at Berkeley, and Physics & Dancing at UCLA.

Since the enactment of the 2030 UC Goal legislation, we've observed its impact on international applicants, particularly at Berkeley and UCLA. As we approach the year 2030, I foresee more campuses adopting this approach, which will make it increasingly challenging for international applicants, including those from China, to secure admission to these top schools and their preferred departments/majors.

However, it's not all gloom and doom. Based on past experiences, the financial stability of California will play a significant role in determining how UCs approach the admission of international students. International students have long been a substantial financial pillar for the system, as they pay three times the tuition fees and do not utilize financial aid. Therefore, if the Californian economy were to decline over the next couple of years, perhaps due to the burst of the A.I. bubble, there's a good chance that UCs will once again become more accommodating to international students, as was the case during the sub-prime crisis in the late 2000s.
