什麽是TASS？2023年Telluride Association Sophomore Seminar項目介紹

1、什麽(me) 是TASS？

Telluride Association Sophomore Seminar（簡稱TASS）可謂是人文社科夏校裏金字塔的頂尖，每年都會(hui) 收到大量申請，最終錄取人數在50人左右，而每年錄取的中國大陸的同學大概為(wei) 1到2人。

每年TASS將經過嚴(yan) 格挑選的來自世界各地的年輕和聰明的學生聚集在一起，共同分享對學習(xi) 的熱情和課題研究過程，主要形式是大學教授開展閱讀、議論、文學分析、寫(xie) 作等主題研討會(hui) ，更側(ce) 重小組討論而不是專(zhuan) 家講座。

項目為(wei) 期六周，所有被錄取的學生無需支付任何項目費用（包括學費，書(shu) 本費、食宿費和實地考察費）。

兩(liang) 大研討主題

TASS有兩(liang) 個(ge) 主要的項目分支，一個(ge) 叫Anti-Opression Studies （TASS-AOS）反壓迫研究，一個(ge) 叫Critical Black Studies （TASS-CBS）批判性黑人研究，兩(liang) 個(ge) 分支項目都致力於(yu) 通過人文和社會(hui) 科學的課程研究權力和特權是如何塑造社會(hui) 結構的。所有學生僅(jin) 可申請其中一個(ge) 分支項目。

TASS-AOS（Anti-Oppressive Studies）項目將會(hui) 深入討論各種權力和壓迫製度，包括白人至上、父權製和階級主義(yi) ，並探討改變社會(hui) 的方法。

TASS-CBS（Critical Black Studies）將探討非洲裔人的曆史、政治、文學、藝術以及其他相關(guan) 知識和文化貢獻。

課程安排

具體(ti) 課程安排將由2個(ge) 主要部分組成：研討會(hui) （Seminar）和 社區項目（Community）。

SEMINAR 研討會(hui)

 每個(ge) 工作日，學生們(men) 都會(hui) 上一節3小時的大學水平研討會(hui) 課程，課堂內(nei) 容包括討論，小組工作，教師講課以及其他相關(guan) 活動。學生們(men) 則需要按要求閱讀相關(guan) 書(shu) 籍和文章，觀看電影和其他藝術作品，參與(yu) 課堂活動等等。課程期間，學生還將會(hui) 在老師的反饋和幫助下寫(xie) 各種論文。

COMMUNITY 社區項目 

在課外時間，學生們(men) 將一起策劃小組活動、共同創建一個(ge) 具有包容性的社區環境、並規劃社區服務以及項目預算等等。學生們(men) 還將學習(xi) 和實踐變革性正義(yi) （Transformative Justice）以加強社區關(guan) 係並解決(jue) 內(nei) 部衝(chong) 突。還會(hui) 有機會(hui) 和同學們(men) 一起參與(yu) 一項公開演講項目、出席特邀嘉賓的講座等等。

申請指南

基本要求：

1.申請者必須是9年級升10年級或是10年級升11年級的學生，在15-18歲之間。

2.申請材料包括申請者的基本信息，監護人基本信息，學校基本信息，獎項，活動以及工作和誌願者經曆。

3.按照官方提供的的時間線安排，TASS會(hui) 在三月中旬通知獲得麵試資格的申請者。獲得了麵試資格後，官方才會(hui) 要求提交推薦信以及成績單等所需材料，並提供如何提交材料的指導。

由於(yu) 第一步無需提交推薦信以及成績單等資料，所以把文書(shu) 寫(xie) 好是重中之重。

文書(shu) 要求：

1.每篇400 - 500字

2.AOS和CBS項目的三篇文書(shu) 題目大致相同，唯一不同的點在第二篇。兩(liang) 個(ge) 項目都要求學生分析看過的書(shu) 、電影和音樂(le) 等藝術作品，但是CBS將藝術作品限定在了非裔美國人和黑人曆史相關(guan) 的品類裏

3.按照官方的說法，他們(men) 評估文書(shu) 的方向更注重簡潔明確的表達和清晰鋒利的觀點。

“這些文書(shu) 是我們(men) 做出錄取決(jue) 定的主要依據。請確保你的回答經過了反複推敲、表達完整而簡潔。我們(men) 將根據你的論文中提出的觀點的力度以及你對複雜問題的分析能力和批判性思考的能力來評估你的論文。”

TASS participants come from a wide variety of educational backgrounds. We are interested in how you evaluate your own educational experiences. If you could change anything, how would you change your high school? (If you don’t attend high school, how would you change how you’re learning right now?)

At TASS-AOS, you will analyze books, films, music, and other works of art. We are interested in what you take away from books you read, films you watch, music you listen to, and so on. Think about a recent book, film, song, or other creative work that you experienced outside of school. What did you notice in this work that others might not have? Why is this work important to you?

TASS participants live together in addition to attending class, and inevitably conflicts arise. We are interested in knowing how you handle conflicts with peers. Consider the following scenario: You used to be friendly with Marcus, but now you are making friends more with Michelle and Alexis. You, Michelle and Alexis are doing lots of things together that don’t include Marcus. For example, the three of you often go to the yard of the TASS house to talk together at night. Marcus is telling others he’s angry with you because you’re excluding him from the friend group, and he thinks it’s because he is biracial. How would you respond to this scenario?
