Thoth Academy 初中創意寫(xie) 作係列課程的這門課 - Creative Writing: Fiction，其課程設計理念還是基於(yu) Reading Like a Writer, Writing for a Reader 的理念，通過精讀經典短篇小說來學習(xi) 短篇小說的創意寫(xie) 作。

基於(yu) 這個(ge) 理念，該課程既不是一個(ge) 單純的短篇小說精讀課，也不是一門隻講解教授創意寫(xie) 作技巧的課程。在這門課程中，我們(men) 的作家老師將帶領學生們(men) 以作家的方式，深入研究經典短篇小說作者的作品，真正學習(xi) 如何 Reading Like a Writer，具體(ti) 學習(xi) 短篇故事中各種創作手法的使用方式，譬如：語言，背景，角色發展，對話，觀點，象征主義(yi) ，和情節等等。學生們(men) 將短篇小說作為(wei) 範文（Mentor Text）來學習(xi) 創意寫(xie) 作的方法和技巧，並在自己的創作中模仿運用。

Thoth Academy G6-8年級的創意寫(xie) 作係列課程目前分四個(ge) 級別的課程，包括從(cong) 創意寫(xie) 作主要故事元素及技巧，到創作短篇故事，再到以詩歌為(wei) 載體(ti) 來學習(xi) 各種文學手法技巧來為(wei) 作品錦上添花，再到最後的如何投稿出版自己的作品。通過四個(ge) 進階課程的學習(xi) ，學生循序漸進紮紮實實地提高寫(xie) 作水平。具體(ti) 為(wei) 以下四個(ge) 級別的課程：

G6-8 Creative Writing: Fiction

介紹學習(xi) 小說的主要故事元素，激發學生極大的寫(xie) 作熱情。課程涵蓋的經典短篇小說作者包括 Isaac Asimov，Gary Soto，Ray Bradbury，Shirley Jackson，和Hernando Tellez等等。

G6-8 Creative Writing: Writing through Novel Study - Alice in Wonderland, The Giver, Anton Chekov’s Forty Stories

以作家的方式去閱讀（Reading like a writer），將小說作為(wei) 範文（Mentor Text），創作出自己的優(you) 秀小說作品。

G6-8 Creative Writing: Poetry

以詩歌為(wei) 載體(ti) 來學習(xi) 各種文學手法技巧來為(wei) 作品錦上添花。

G6-8 Creative Writing: Publishing a Short Story

這是一門給熱愛寫(xie) 作的學生設計的以出版為(wei) 目的的課程。作家老師將一步步地教學生從(cong) 哪些方麵來修改完善自己的作品，如何找到適合自己作品投稿的出版刊物，甚至會(hui) 教如何寫(xie) 給編輯部的 cover letter，如何回複編輯部的信件。課堂上通過閱讀分析同齡人出版的故事，學習(xi) 為(wei) 什麽(me) 這些作品能得以出版，我們(men) 能從(cong) 中學到什麽(me) ，並運用到自己的作品中來。課堂結束後學生將給三個(ge) 出版刊物投稿。

在整個(ge) 十節課的課程中，學生們(men) 將通過閱讀和模仿經典短篇小說，來學習(xi) 如何像作家一樣思考和寫(xie) 作。本課程涵蓋的經典短篇小說作者包括Isaac Asimov，Gary Soto，Ray Bradbury，Shirley Jackson，和Hernando Tellez。

學生可以選擇在整個(ge) 課程中創作一個(ge) 完整的故事，也可以將每節課的寫(xie) 作練習(xi) 作為(wei) 單獨的寫(xie) 作練習(xi) 。課堂上還會(hui) 采用研討會(hui) Workshop 的形式來幫助學生練習(xi) 如何分析評價(jia) 他人的作品，同時也能收獲他人對自己作品的建設性反饋。

每節課，學生都要根據老師提供的 prompts 進行閱讀和寫(xie) 作。然後，在下一節課中老師將對閱讀或寫(xie) 作技巧進行回顧，以激發學生進一步的創造性寫(xie) 作。學生應按時完成每節課後的寫(xie) 作作業(ye) ，老師將為(wei) 每個(ge) 學生提供個(ge) 性化的修改編輯和反饋。

每節課都會(hui) 圍繞創意寫(xie) 作的某個(ge) 主題，譬如一節課會(hui) 圍繞人物發展和情節（Characterization and Plot）；下一節課則會(hui) 講敘事人稱和對話（Point of View and Dialogue）；再下一節課則會(hui) 圍繞如何構建小說的緊張衝(chong) 突，並步步升級到高潮（Building Tension，Climax，and Action ），等等。

Creative Writing: Fiction

Throughout this 10-lesson course, students will be taught how to think and write like writers as they read and imitate works of short fiction appropriate but challenging for their grade level. Classic short story authors covered in this course will include Isaac Asimov, Gary Soto, Ray Bradbury, Shirley Jackson, and Hernando Tellez. These readings will be provided in the form of digital PDFs by the teacher. If students so choose, they can work on one story throughout the course so that by the end of it, they have written an entire story. Otherwise, they can treat each week’s writing exercise as individual writing practice. Workshops will be used to help students practice analyzing and critiquing others’ writing while also hearing constructive feedback on their own.

Each week students are expected to read and/or write based on prompts the teacher provides. The reading or writing techniques will then be reviewed in the following class session to inspire further student creative writing. Students should also upload their writing exercises to the Course’s Google Classroom page, and the teacher will provide individualized edits and feedback for each student.
