The maps below show changes in the city of Nelson in recent times.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The maps compare the city of Nelson in the year 2000 and now after undergoing several changes.

Overall, the town has witnessed changes to its transportation system and has also seen the addition of new amenities such as a shopping center and a new market. 

Lying south of the city center, the port-side road that ran parallel to the shore, has been converted into pedestrian use only, allowing access for visitors to the port to the new bars, clubs, and restaurants that have been developed in this area over the last twenty years. A tramline has also been added to the town, connecting the city center to the university. The university itself has also constructed a dormitory for students. 

Furthermore, in the north, east of the university, the new shopping center has been developed in lieu of the forested area that previously existed, meanwhile, situated to the south, and east of the city center, a new covered market has been erected, taking place of the old market on the west side of the city, which has now been transformed into a shop. 

Finally, the train station has been relocated from the west side to the middle of the town, just north of the city center that now has a bicycle renting scheme.
