Some people think that older school children should learn a wide range of subjects and develop knowledge. But other people think that they should only learn a small number of subjects in detail. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

首先,隻學有限幾門課程會(hui) 導致學生思維狹窄,現在很多領域都是跨學科的,需要多學科知識才能真正學好某一門課程;

其次,工作好也不僅(jin) 需要專(zhuan) 業(ye) 知識,還需要各種各樣非專(zhuan) 業(ye) 知識,尤其是希望成為(wei) 團隊領導,更是需要各種專(zhuan) 業(ye) 外的知識;

Many people hold that senior high school students should focus on a few particular subjects rather than take a wide range courses. This, according to these people, will help students to concentrate on the subjects they are studying without being distracted. The natural result is that they can master these few subjects better and go to a better university or find a better job after they finish their high school.

This argument is great, yet only seemingly so. In the first place, to choose only a limited number of subjects is not the surest way to learn these subjects well. Today, almost every subject is interdisciplinary in nature. For example, linguistic studies require extensive knowledge of statistics, and modern astronomy is based on mathematics. It is thus very unlikely to really master a subject without much knowledge from other subjects.

Secondly, to be equipped with the knowledge of only a few subjects is not enough for a complex job, which often demands a wide range of knowledge and capabilities. This is especially true when people are expected to become team leaders.

Finally, it will be extremely difficult for children to make a different choice when they later find the few subjects on which they have spent so much time in high school are not what really interest them.

To choose only a small number of subjects, then, may help children gain an edge in job market or university admission,  but to be open to as many other subjects as possible is more advisable if they want to achieve a better career development, and to live a more fruitful life.
