GRE 那些有特點的詞義考察

首先這些意思不是考查的“怪”，其實日常的語境中也是會(hui) 用到的，畢竟大多數的GRE 考查文本是來自於(yu) 消費級別的雜誌期刊的。但確實這些意思可能不是我們(men) 接觸的某個(ge) 詞的時候的首要意思，或者說不是某個(ge) 單詞在字典中的第一個(ge) 或者第二個(ge) 解釋，所以會(hui) 導致我們(men) 在題中看到的時候覺得比較突兀。

以下簡單總結下部分單詞，並不窮盡：

# purport  表示“事與(yu) 願違的意圖”

會(hui) 有和design 對比的來考察，design 隻是一個(ge) 簡單的“意圖”；而如果用purport 不僅(jin) 僅(jin) 說明有這個(ge) 意圖，而且這個(ge) 意圖沒有實現

# discriminate 理解為(wei) 寬泛的 “區別、區分”

“歧視”這個(ge) 意思意思是“區別”這個(ge) 意思的衍生意思，如果說的中性一些，“歧視”就是“缺別對待”，從(cong) 考試角度來說，這個(ge) 單詞最好理解為(wei) 中性的 “區別、區分”

Faced with so much conflicting information on the internet, many people come to believe that all sources are so ___slanted/tendentious______ that efforts to discriminate between the true and the false are inevitably futile.

# convenient 帶點負麵的腔調

表示方便這個(ge) 意思沒有問題，我們(men) 遇到使用這個(ge) 意思的句子也不會(hui) 困惑。隻是包括中文中用的時候，有時加個(ge) convenient 會(hui) 帶點“負向”的強調，比如一個(ge) “方便”的解決(jue) 辦法，隱含的意思就是這個(ge) 辦法不是最好的，隻是比較方便想到。英語裏用到這個(ge) 詞的時候個(ge) 別的場合下也有類似的效果，可能因為(wei) 是convenient，顯得就沒有那麽(me) 用心（deliberate），就有點lazy 了。

# of course 表示讓步態度

關(guan) 於(yu) of course 表示讓步這個(ge) 點不算是GRE 的特點考法，在什麽(me) 語境或者考試裏of course 都是讓步的，隻是我們(men) 接觸“態度類型的文本”少的時候，對於(yu) 它的讓步效果不會(hui) 特別敏感。

Compared to Earth over most of its 4 to 6-billion-year history, the world we live in today is quite (i)___atypical__. Of course, it is human nature to regard the world that we are used to as (ii)_permanent____. # at best : 出現題目裏麵跟負向態度
