藤校之一的達特茅斯學院宣布恢複標化要求

今天早些時候，美國八所常青藤名校之一的達特茅斯學院官方宣布，將在2025年秋季入學申請季開始，恢複對申請者標化成績的要求。‍‍‍

達特茅斯學院（Dartmouth College）成立於(yu) 1769年，經常被親(qin) 切地稱為(wei) “達茅”。它是八所藤校中本科新生規模最小的一所，同時，恐怕也是在中國學生、家長心目中最“默默無聞”的一所。但是，這絲(si) 毫不影響學校高不可攀的申請難度。根據學校官方數據，2022秋季入學申請季中，達茅的總錄取率僅(jin) 為(wei) 6.38%，從(cong) 任何角度衡量，它都是一所美國“最難錄取大學”。

今天的官方通知，是通過校長署名信的方式發布的。要點如下：

達茅恢複標化的要求是基於(yu) 社會(hui) 學研究結果，該研究顯示，

This decision was guided by social science research that suggests we can improve our ability to identify students from a wide range of economic backgrounds who will succeed at Dartmouth.

我們(men) 的標化要求在新冠疫情開始後暫停……但是通過分析比較疫情前後若幹年的錄取數據，我們(men) 得出如下結論:

The testing requirement was paused at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic when many students were not able to take SATs and ACTs. The hiatus allowed us to look at our admissions data over several years—years in which the SAT/ACT was required and years in which it was optional.Analysis of this data…has led us to conclude that:

我們(men) 旨在遴選最有潛力學生的全麵審核機製，得益於(yu) 對申請者標化成績的考量……SAT/ACT分數尤其能夠幫助我們(men) 識別出那些相對資源不足的學生，而在選擇性提交標化的政策下，這類學生或許會(hui) 被錯過。

Our holistic admissions approach to identifying the most promising students, regardless of their background, benefits from a careful consideration of testing information as part of their application package. In particular, SAT/ACTs can be especially helpful in identifying students from less-resourced backgroundswho would succeed at Dartmouth but might otherwise be missed in a test-optional environment.

標化分數不會(hui) 也不應該主宰錄取決(jue) 定，但是它應該為(wei) 錄取決(jue) 定提供必要的信息。

A standardized test score doesn't—and shouldn't—dictate our admissions decisions, but it should inform those decisions.

簡單總結，這個(ge) 決(jue) 定會(hui) 馬上影響到今年申請的學生（即正在就讀11年級的學生）。他們(men) 將會(hui) 在2025年高中畢業(ye) ，因此將申請2025秋季入學，即本政策開頭提到的Class of 2029畢業(ye) 班。

盡管很多同學不希望參加標化考試，但是通過今天達茅的決(jue) 定，我們(men) 不難推測，一定會(hui) 有更多頂尖大學跟進這一政策。事實上，麻省理工學院早在去年就已經宣布恢複對申請者標化的要求了。

所以，想進名校的學霸們(men) ，還是早日將敲門磚搞定吧。加油！
